About Me!

I’m Maia Penzer, a Junior at Boston University studying Journalism and Public Relations with a passion for storytelling, culture, and beauty. As a Senior Writer for The Daily Free Press and former Lifestyle Associate Editor, I’ve covered everything from media trends to personal narratives, exploring how culture and consumerism shape identity.

Beyond writing, I’m involved in BU on Broadway, where my love for theater and performance intersects with my passion for storytelling. I’m also deeply interested in the beauty industry — its trends, marketing, and influence on consumer culture. Whether through journalism, theater, or media, I’m always drawn to stories that spark conversation and challenge perspectives.

Maia's Inner Monologue

Maia's Inner Monologue is the lifestyle column I started in 2023 with The Daily Free Press, BU's Independent Student Newspaper, and have kept up with throughout college — my personal diary, but for everyone to read. At first, it was just a place to put my thoughts, but I quickly realized that the feelings I was working through were ones others were grappling with too. It clicked that this was where I could truly find my voice. What started as personal reflection turned into a weekly column where I dive into trends that shape our world, call out the myths we’re sold, and break down the push and pull between being yourself and fitting in. It wasn’t always easy to put into words, but I knew I wanted to share those thoughts - so I just wrote. Now, writing this column excites me in ways I hadn’t expected, and it continues to evolve as I do.

Theatrely

Covering theater for Theatrely during summer 2023 was a dream that put me right at the heart of the industry I love. Reporting on Broadway news, writing features and attending press events gave me a front-row seat (sometimes literally) to the energy and excitement of live performance. Whether I was covering red carpets, capturing the magic of opening nights, or running Theatrely’s live Instagram stories for the 76th Annual Tony Awards — updating winners in real time and writing in-depth articles about the honorees — I learned how to translate the immediacy of theater into digital storytelling. Every article, every event, every post was a chance to spotlight the people and performances shaping the stage.
